Assisen ist ein verfassungsrechtlicher Begriff des Mittelalters ursprünglich für feierliche Versammlungen und Zusammenkünfte, auf denen rechtliche Angelegenheiten geregelt wurden, aber auch für die Ergebnisse solcher Sitzungen . Später wurden damit im englischen und dann wieder im französischen Recht bis ins 19. Jahrhundert Geschworenengerichte bezeichnet.
