Autunit ist ein häufig vorkommendes Mineral aus der Mineralklasse der ?Phosphate, Arsenate und Vanadate?, das zur Gruppe der Uranglimmer gehört. Es kristallisiert im tetragonalen Kristallsystem mit der chemischen Zusammensetzung Ca2 Â· 10 H2O und entwickelt meist tafelige, buchförmige Kristalle, aber auch blättrige oder schuppige Aggregate in leuchtend gelblicher, gelbgrüner oder grüner Farbe bei hellgelber Strichfarbe.
