Beim üblichen rechteckigen Bildformat ist mit Bildwinkel in der Regel der zur Bilddiagonale gehörende Wert gemeint. Horizontaler und vertikaler Bildwinkel sind kleiner und in voller Länge als horizontaler Bildwinkel beziehungsweise vertikaler Bildwinkel zu bezeichnen. Bei üblicherweise größerer Breite und kleinerer Höhe ist der vertikale Bildwinkel der kleinste und der diagonale der größte der drei Winkel.
