Unter Fruchtfolge oder Felderwirtschaft wird die zeitliche Abfolge der auf einer landwirtschaftlichen Fläche angebauten Nutzpflanzenarten im Ablauf der Vegetationsperiode und Jahre verstanden. Hingegen findet bei der Einfeldwirtschaft bzw. Monokultur in einem Zeitraum über 5 Jahre kein Fruchtwechsel statt. Auf diesen ackerbaulichen Flächen wurde in Mitteleuropa meist Roggen über mehrere Jahre hintereinander angebaut.
