Der Geldkurs ist der höchste Preis, zu dem ein Marktteilnehmer in einem klassischen Orderbuchhandelssystem mit fortlaufender Auktion bereit ist, ein Wertpapier, eine Devise oder ein sonstiges Finanzprodukt zu kaufen. Der Marktteilnehmer A bietet diesen Preis, um das Papier zu erwerben. Zum Geldkurs kann es somit unmittelbar von einem Teilnehmer B an A verkauft werden. Wenn also ein Marktteilnehmer das Papier genau zu diesem Zeitpunkt ohne Verzögerung verkaufen möchte, so kann er den Geldkurs akzeptieren und zu diesem Preis verkaufen und erhält somit genau den Preis, den der Käufer A bereit ist zu zahlen. In diesem Fall wird der Verkäufer als Preisnehmer bezeichnet.
