Einerseits kann ein Messgerät nicht exakt eingestellt werden; andererseits können sich seine Eigenschaften durch äußere Einflüsse ändern. Mit der Einstufung in eine Genauigkeitsklasse wird ein Qualitätsmerkmal geliefert, in welchem Umfang diese Ursachen zu einer Messabweichung führen dürfen.
