Eine Glimmentladung ist eine Gasentladung, die selbständig zwischen zwei an einer Gleich- oder Wechselspannungsquelle liegenden kalten Elektroden bei niedrigem Gasdruck auftritt. Die Farbe des Glimmens hängt vom Gas ab, für Neon zum Beispiel ist sie rötlich.
