Unter einem Harnwegsinfekt versteht man eine durch Krankheitserreger verursachte Infektionskrankheit der ableitenden Harnwege. Die Infektion kann sich dabei bis in die Nieren und Blutbahn ausbreiten und infolgedessen zu bedrohlichen Krankheitsbildern führen. Harnwegsinfekte können sehr erfolgreich mit Antibiotika behandelt werden. Dabei kommen je nach dem Risikopotential des Patienten verschiedene Medikamente zur Anwendung. In unkomplizierten Fällen kommt es oft ohne Medikamentengabe zur Ausheilung der Erkrankung. Nichtmedikamentöse Maßnahmen können diese fördern.
