Ein Hufeisen ist ein meist U-förmig gebogenes und mit Nagellöchern versehenes Eisen, das Huftieren zum Schutz ihrer Hufe durch Aufnageln, umgangssprachlich beschlagen, durch einen Hufschmied aufgebracht wird. Ein ähnlicher Schutz des Hufes wird auch durch so genannte Hufschuhe erreicht. Die mittigen Rillen im Hufeisen , wo auch die Löcher für die Nägel eingebracht sind, dienen als Basisgleitschutz.
