Impasto ist eine Maltechnik, bei der die Farben sehr dick aufgetragen werden. Man kann die Pinselstriche oder die Abdrücke des Malmessers deutlich erkennen. Die Farbe kann auch so dick aufgetragen werden, dass einzelne Farben direkt auf dem Malgrund und nicht auf der Palette gemischt werden. Nach dem Trocknen bleibt die reliefartige Struktur erhalten.
