Dazu gehören amphibische Operationen wie die Seelandung, aber auch Sicherungsaufgaben an Bord von Kriegsschiffen und die Untersuchung von Handelsschiffen. Die Marineinfanterie kann ein Teil der Seestreitkräfte sein, in manchen Ländern ist sie auch Teil des Heeres oder eine eigenständige Teilstreitkraft.
