Eine Todesanzeige ist die öffentliche Bekanntmachung eines Todesfalls. Darin wird in der Regel das Datum und der Ort der kirchlichen oder weltlichen Trauerfeier angegeben. Meist zeigen Privatpersonen den Tod eines Verwandten an; daneben gibt es Anzeigen, die der Tod eines Mitarbeiters oder Unternehmers bekanntgeben und den Verstorbenen posthum würdigen. Die Bekanntgabe eines Todesfalls geschieht oft per Inserat in einer oder mehreren Zeitungen und an einzelne Adressaten durch einen gedruckten Trauerbrief oder eine Trauerkarte. Einige Tage oder Wochen danach folgt oft eine Danksagung. Die Todesanzeige wird in der Regel im Beratungsgespräch mit dem Bestatter gestaltet. Sie kann auch direkt in der Anzeigenaufnahme einer Zeitung in Auftrag gegeben werden.
