Als Umlaufbahn oder Orbit wird in der Astronomie die Bahnkurve bezeichnet, auf der sich ein Objekt im freien Fall periodisch um ein anderes Objekt bewegt. Diese Bahn hat idealisiert die Form einer Ellipse. Da ständig Kräfte von außerhalb auf ein solches Zweikörpersystem wirken, kann die Bahnform jedoch keine mathematisch exakte Ellipse sein. Der Umlauf wird selten auch als Revolution bezeichnet.
