Ob und für wen eine Wehrpflicht besteht, ist in verschiedenen Ländern unterschiedlich geregelt. Mit wenigen Ausnahmen erstreckt sich die Wehrpflicht nur auf die männliche Bevölkerung, dennoch wird häufig auch synonym von einer allgemeinen Wehrpflicht gesprochen.
