Im engeren Sinn ist damit der Textabschnitt Lk 2,1?20 EU gemeint, der traditionell im christlichen Weihnachtsgottesdienst verlesen wird. Im weiteren Sinn sind alle Texte zur Kindheitsgeschichte oder Vorgeschichte Jesu im Matthäusevangelium und Lukasevangelium gemeint.
