Ahnenkult, auch Ahnenverehrung oder Manismus genannt , ist ein ritueller Kult, bei dem tote Vorfahren verehrt werden. Die Ahnen stehen entweder in direkter familiärer Linie oder waren Oberhaupt einer Gruppe. Fast immer wird der Ahnenkult in Verbindung mit einem Opfer praktiziert, z. B. einem Trank-, Speise-, Brand- oder Kleidungsopfer . Je nach Epoche und kulturgeschichtlichem Zusammenhang lassen sich mehr oder weniger unmittelbare Praktiken des Ahnenkults feststellen.
