Sinngleich wird der Begriff für die Puffer-Batterie in Wasserstoff-Brennstoffzellen-Fahrzeugen verwendet. Sie besteht aus mehreren zusammengeschalteten Elementen und aus wenigen bis Tausenden parallel und seriell zusammengeschalteten Akkumulator-Zellen oder Zellenblöcken. Auch Superkondensatoren oder mechanische Schwungradspeicher können als Antriebsbatterie bezeichnet werden, wenn mehrere davon kombiniert werden, um ein Fahrzeug anzutreiben.
