Archangelsk ist eine Hafenstadt in Nordrussland mit 348.783 Einwohnern .[1] Sie ist administratives Zentrum der Oblast Archangelsk und befindet sich oberhalb der Mündung der Nördlichen Dwina in das Weiße Meer. Die Stadt entstand im Jahr 1584 unter dem Namen Nowocholmogory mit der Befestigung des im 12. Jahrhundert gegründeten Erzengel-Michael-Klosters, dem die Stadt ihren Namen verdankt. Archangelsk war im 16. Jahrhundert der erste russische Seehafen, über den Handel mit England und anderen westeuropäischen Staaten getrieben wurde. Heute ist Archangelsk eine der wichtigsten Industriestädte Nordrusslands.
