Diese Kurzform kann zu Verwechslungen mit dem Gericht Curry führen. Oder aber es wird angenommen, dass Currypulver ein Produkt aus den Blättern des Currybaums oder der als Currykraut bezeichneten aromatischen Italienischen Strohblume sei. Im englischen Sprachraum nennt man die Gewürzmischung curry powder.
