Eine Erkennungsmarke ist eine teilbare oder zweiteilige Metallmarke, die vor allem zur Identifizierung toter Soldaten dienen soll. Auf ihr ist die Personenkennziffer, häufig auch ein Landeskennzeichen und die Blutgruppe eingeprägt. Weitere Prägungen wie Rhesusfaktor, Religion oder Impfstatus variieren von Land zu Land. Die Erkennungsmarke ist an einer Kette um den Hals zu tragen. Wird der Träger der Marke getötet, so kann der Finder einen Teil der Marke abtrennen, um später den Fund dokumentieren zu können. Zu diesem Zweck sind beide Hälften mit identischen Informationen versehen. In der Mitte befindet sich eine Sollbruchstelle.
