Fernsehturm oder Fernmeldeturm auch Typenturm nennt man einen meist röhrenförmigen Turm in schlanker Stahlbetonbauweise , von dem Hörfunk- oder Fernsehsignale ausgesendet werden. Fernmeldetürme werden auch für richtfunkbasierte Telekommunikation, wie beispielsweise die Übertragung von Telefongesprächen verwendet, wobei diese heute zunehmend durch Glasfaserkabel oder Satellitenkommunikation übernommen wird. Der Unterschied zum allgemeinen Funkturm liegt in der Bauweise; von Hochhäusern unterscheidet einen Fernsehturm der Hauptzweck. Fernsehtürme sind vielfach für den Publikumsverkehr geöffnet und bieten neben Aussichtsplattformen auch Restaurants oder Cafés. Eine Sonderform des Fernmeldeturms waren die militärisch genutzten Aufklärungstürme, die heute meist stillgelegt sind.
