Goethit, auch als Nadeleisenerz oder Brauner Glaskopf bekannt, ist ein weit verbreitetes Mineral aus der Mineralklasse der ?Oxide und Hydroxide?. Es kristallisiert im orthorhombischen Kristallsystem mit der chemischen Zusammensetzung ?-Fe3+O und entwickelt meist nadel- bis radialstrahlige oder prismatische Kristalle, aber auch traubige bis nierige Aggregate von schwarzbrauner bis durch Verwitterung hellgelber Farbe bei gelbbrauner Strichfarbe. Frische, kristalline oder traubige Goethitproben zeigen einen metallischen Glanz, angewitterte oder feinnadelige Aggregate dagegen einen samtartigen Glanz .
