Ramen sind ? ebenso wie etwa Somen, Soba und Udon ? japanische Weizennudeln. Auch die daraus hergestellte Nudelsuppe wird Ramen genannt. Ursprünglich stammt das Gericht aus China, wurde aber im 19. Jahrhundert von der japanischen Küche übernommen, angepasst und weiterentwickelt. In Japan werden Ramen in speziellen Restaurants und Lokalen angeboten, die sich auf den Verkauf dieser Nudelsuppengerichte spezialisiert haben. Außerhalb Japans und Asiens sind Ramen vor allem als Imbiss bzw. industriell hergestellte schnellzubereitete Instantnudelsuppen bekannt.
