Der Reim ist im weiteren Sinne eine Verbindung von Wörtern mit ähnlichem Klang. Im engeren Sinne ist der Reim der Gleichklang eines betonten Vokals und der ihm folgenden Laute. Dieser Laut kann je nach Dichtungstradition am Anfang des Wortes , in der Mitte oder am Ende stehen. Beispiel: lauf ? sauf; laufen ? saufen; Laufender ? Saufender. In der linguistisch orientierten Lyriktheorie werden Reime als phonologische Überstrukturierung aufgefasst.
