Beim Repulsionsmotor handelt es sich um eine Sonderbauform eines Einphasenasynchronmotors bei dem Zwecks Drehzahl- und Drehmomenteneinstellung die Bürsten in ihrer Position verstellt werden können. Im Ständer ist eine verteilte Einphasenwicklung angeordnet, der Anker wird wie bei einer Gleichstrommaschine ausgeführt. Der Läuferkreis ist über die Bürsten kurzgeschlossen und die Bürsten können mechanisch zwischen der Kurzschluss- und Leerlaufstellung verdreht werden, um so die Drehzahl und Drehmoment einzustellen.
