Speicherkraftwerke wandeln elektrische Energie je nach Kraftwerkstyp in potenzielle Energie und in kleineren Umfang in chemische Energie oder kinetische Energie um, die in dieser Form einen bestimmte Zeit gespeichert werden kann und bei Bedarf wieder in elektrische Energie zurück konvertiert wird. Dieser mit einem Wirkungsgrad behaftete Prozess wird auch als englisch Power-to-Power bezeichnet.[1]
