Unter einer Wurzelkanalbehandlung versteht man in der Zahnmedizin eine Therapie mit dem Ziel, einen Zahn zu erhalten, dessen Pulpa vital, aber irreversibel entzündet oder devital ist. Eine Entzündung der Pulpa ist deshalb irreversibel, da dem Zahn ein Lymphabflusssystem fehlt. Dabei wird das vitale oder devitale Pulpengewebe aus dem Wurzelkanal entfernt, der Wurzelkanal erweitert und dabei das den Wurzelkanal umgebende infizierte Wurzeldentin durch Herausfeilen entfernt. Abschließend wird der Wurzelkanal gefüllt. Die Wurzelkanalbehandlung ist Teil der Endodontie, die wiederum zur konservierenden Zahnheilkunde gehört.
